Valuable Stories You Wrote This Week → January 7— January 13, 2018

On Reinventing Your Life, Zen Stories For The Mind, And The Bond We Share On Medium

Joren van Schaik

Good evening readers and writers.
I hope you had a great, second week of 2019!

It’s damn cold here in Budapest. But if you got no place to go,

let it snow
let it snow
let it snow

Sorry for that…

Because of the previous three weeks of chaos — filled with packing, moving, unpacking, planning — I’ve been spending more than the usual time on reading instead of writing. During that time, an idea popped up in my mind.

As the title already described, I collected a few articles from you that had an impact on me.

It is my goal to create a treasury where everyone can spend their time reading striking, emotional and uplifting stories from people all around the globe.

It doesn’t matter who you are, how many followers you have, where you’re from or how experienced you are. If your story touched me, inspired me, or even kicked me in the arse, then I want to show you my gratitude through supporting and spreading your work.

I want synergy. I believe we can be in this together if we would chose to be so. Writers supporting writers

With this weekly compilation, I want to provide you with valuable stories every Sunday. I hope they may serve you as well as they did me.

To all my dear fellow, creative friends, thank you for your work and companionship.

Feel free to share your thoughts.
See you in the next one.

Why Writing On Medium Has Changed My Life

I Have Never Experienced Greater Success Than This

By Leo Alexander

“The same people over and over again began finding their own ways to write valuable content. They weren’t professionals. They were normal people who discovered they liked to write and had things to say. That’s what Medium has reminded me of.”

Mutual Support is the Fuel that Keeps Medium Thriving

It’s Not Just Great Stories That Keep Us Coming Back — It’s Great People Too

by Brian Brewington

“I pay my $5 membership fee even if it’s the last five I have in the bank, not because I couldn’t live without the stories from writers here — but because I see it as an investment in both myself and them.”

4 Ways to Deal With Negative People

“… especially energy draining vampires.”

By Brian Pennie

“If someone is being argumentative, use it as a chance to practice non-reactivity. If someone is criticizing you, use it as an opportunity to practice your perspective-taking skills. If someone is acting out in unawareness, use it as a chance to practice tolerance and compassion.”

You Don’t Have to Explain Yourself

The Need to Justify Our Choices

By Jeff Barton

“A lot of us feel this need to explain ourselves. Whether it be what we are pursuing as a career, our choice of partners, or even our appearance, we want to explain to others why we made that decision.”

An Open Letter to Anyone Who Feels Lost or Hopeless

Your story hasn’t ended.

By Shannon Ashley

Maybe you’ve already decided that all your pain and trauma gets to tell you and the rest of the planet who you really are. That it’s too late for you and this is all vapid dribble. You might think so, but you’d be mistaken. Because it’s the story of what you decide to do with all of that pain which ultimately tells us all who you really are.”

Living Boldly

By Dan Pedersen

“Living more boldly means recognizing that many of your fears are false. Living boldly is the ability to overcome false narratives.”

How to Build an Audience of 1000 True Fans in a Noisy World

Zen Stories For A Calm, Clear & Open Mind

By Niklas Göke

“Like zen, focus is a lifelong practice. We’ll fail many times along the way but remember: the best distraction is a good story. Who knows? It just might get you back on track.”

What I Learned In My Month Away From Medium

Objects in the Mirror are Closer Than They Appear

By Jonathan Greene

“What I missed about Medium

The people. My friends. It’s weird when you have a group of friends that you’ve never met, but somehow they are more involved in your daily life than your real-life friends. Because your real-life friends don’t care about what you write. Everyone here does. Because we are all sitting in the same boat.”

Nine illustrated ideas to help you conquer the New Year

What every editor wants, and how to give it to them
